THE SONGS FROM JASON GREELEY
Jason talks about each of the songs on his new album:
We’re all products of our own ancestry. We act and speak in ways where sometimes it scares us that we’re so much like our mother or father. For me personally, I feel such a sense of pride when that happens to me and it happens a lot. This is just one of those tunes that sum up who I am and why I’m just trying to be true to myself. Take it or leave it.
Jason Greeley/Josh Osborne
I’ve got dreams I’m chasing
Yeah some would say my life I’m wasting
But all the right and wrong roads I’ve takin
Got me to where I am and made me my own man
Chorus
You can knock me down but I’ll get back up
At the end of the day I’m still my father's son
Tough as nails heart of gold
Strong as steel hard to hold
And I’m never gonna change
I was born that way
I don’t fight for no reason
But I’d stand for what I believe in
So you can take it or leave it
I’m just being me and that’s all I’ll ever be
Chorus
Sometimes it’s hard for guys to admit that they have a sensitive side. It becomes a lot easier to succumb to when it involves the love of a good woman. It takes you by surprise and you’re really not sure what to do with it. So, what to you do? You run with it.
Usually I get fighting mad
When I’m late for work and the traffic’s bad
Usually I would cuss that man for cutting in my lane
Usually I just can’t resist the urge to scream and shake my fist
Usually it just wrecks my day
Usually I don’t act this way
But she’s here now
Turning everything around
It’s not every day I get to wake up into a dream
I wonder where she hides her wings
cause girls like that don’t fall for guy’s like me
Usually
Usually I don’t sing along
To slow and sappy sweet love songs
Usually I don’t say I’m wrong ‘bout much of anything
Usually I don’t fall so hard
Open up and share my heart
Go all in and show my cards
Usually it don’t get that far
Chorus
Don’t know how I made it through this crazy life without her …..
An average everyday guy just tired of living the day-to-day is determined to make something of his life. Sometimes that means moving away from your family and the life you know.
Unfortunately for a struggling musician, there’s no written handbook that tells you how to become successful in this business. The only thing you have is the fire in your eyes and determination to work very hard for many years with no real guaranteed outcome. You don’t graduate and you don’t receive any degree. Just a gut feeling!!
Well there ain’t much to in this east coast town
Ride the train to Manhattan take a look around
You see a million faces they all look the same
So we left home bound for Tennessee
Gonna make a better life for my family and me
I’m gonna be somebody just you wait and see
Cause sometimes living just ain’t enough to be alive
And all I want is a little more then just to get by
Chorus
You see I grew up in the wrong place I guess
I packed my bags and I headed west
Now I ain’t saying that I’m better then the rest
But Goodbye Jersey, I’m on my way
Play the clubs on Broadway every Saturday night
Trying to make a connection that change your life
Boy you better be ready if you get that chance
Play your songs for everyone in town
Seems their always smiling as they turn you down
Boy that’s a pretty good song but we got other plans
I’m gonna give this everything I possibly can
and maybe some day I might be part of somebody’s plan
Chorus
You see I grew up in the wrong place I guess
I packed my bags and I headed west
Now I ain’t saying that I’m better then the rest
But Goodbye Jersey, I’m on my way
As you get older, it’s funny how your priority’s change. For some people it’s their career, for others it’s their kids. Your sense of responsibility goes to a whole new level when you have kids. You always want to make sure their safe from harm and they grow up to a great life and hopefully someday, have kids of their own. For most of my adult life, I’ve dreamed of being a dad. It’s one of those things I always wanted for myself in life. This tune describes how a father feels when he looks at his family with a real sense of purpose and accomplishment in life.
Sometimes you get a little lost get a little tossed
Get a little off course, on this crazy spinning rock
Sometimes your lose the race fall on your face
Can’t find your place well that’s alright
Your gonna get it back again
Chorus
Cause we’re around for reason
You make your mark do your best
Till it all makes perfect sense
We’re around for a reason
No we can’t always see it
But the good lord only keeps you around for a reason
Who’s gonna throw that ball drive him to the mall
Catch them when they fall, hey that’s my job
And who’s gonna dry her tears listen to her fears
And stand by her through the years, that’s me
Cause I know looking in their eyes
Chorus
I’m around for reason
You make your mark do your best
Till it all makes perfect sense
We’re around for a reason
No we can’t always see it
But the good lord only keeps you around for a reason
You gotta make the most of this life
Cause we only get so many times
Around
No we can’t always see it
But the good lord only keeps you around for a reason
Chorus
We all get lost in the shuffle sometimes of everyday life and we can’t help but want more. Sometimes if just to dream of doing the things were not enough, just doing it would be much better. The first time I heard this song I knew I was going to record it. I instantly felt inspired by it and thought it would have the same affect on the people listening to this record.
Always in a hurry
Tryin' to do a million things at once
Pleasing everybody is easier said than done
Steering with my knees drinking coffee
Making calls on a cell phone
Didn’t see the red light or the eighteen wheeler on a b-line
Never say Hi I'm coming thank god I turned the wheel in time
I was shaking so badly I pulled the car off of the road
As I stood there feeling numb, I looked at who I’ve become
Chorus
I’ve been living in the fast lane hopping on a jet plane
Looking for the next thing smoking
Caught up in a rat race running in the same place
Never knowing where I’m going
I Gotta get a life
Worry less about working little soul searching
Look at what’s wrong and fix it
While there’s still time I don’t have a dead line
And now I know the clock is ticking
Before I die gotta get a life
Wanna love a woman in a way she’s never felt before
Wanna give it all I got then give a little more
Wanna know a secret someone can trust me to keep
Wanna go to vegas gamble like I’ve got it to lose
Disappear to Cabo get a little white sand in my shoes
Climb a rock in Colorado without missing a beat
I’ve gotten use to getting by now I wanna be alive
Chorus
Ah… the trials and tribulations of relationships. Who hasn’t felt like this at one point or another?
You’re in a relationship where things are just not working out and you’re kind of at the end of your rope and you just don’t know what to do anymore. The only thing that you are sure of is that you just don’t want to fight anymore.
By Jason Greeley
It’s 4am I’m stuck inside
Of this hotel room
With my foolish pride
I yelled at you you screamed at me
We both said some awful things we didn’t mean
If I could take it back I would
But what’s done is done
And now life ain’t what it should
Chorus
So I don’t wanna fight no more
I don’t know what we’re fighting for
All I hear is Slammin Doors And you walking away
Maybe we could work it out
Trying not to scream and shout
Find out what it’s all about
Because I still love you
Yeah you heard me, I still Love you
It’s lonely out there
When you live life alone
When your out on the road and you ain’t gotta a home
I roam from town to town further away
From the problems that I faced only yesterday
But I’m on my knees praying to heaven above
What’s the meaning of life if you ain’t got love
Chorus
No matter what I do the fact remains the same
I slowly driving myself insane
I wanna take back those nasty things that I said
I got carried away and I lost my head
Chorus
This is the way we all should do it. A nip it in the bud theory. A lot of times in relationships and even friendships, we say or do things to tick the other person off. How far we’re willing to take it is really what makes us who we are as individuals. It’s human nature to be stubborn but some are just more then others.
What about if in the heat of that moment, we could take a step back and say ok, let’s just end this before it turns to a point where someone says or does something they can’t take back. God knows, I’ve been there and also on the receiving end and it’s no picnic for either side. This is one those tunes I wish I had wrote. I think that if I did, it would have followed “Slammin’ Doors” just as it does on this album - a continuation of the story.
I see you sitting there trying to find a reason just to justify the tension comin on
We can go there if you want to but baby we don’t have to
I gotta a better idea if you want
Instead of wastin a perfectly good evening
Lets just call it night right now, let it go let your guard down
Chrous
Lets get to the good part baby
Into the making up and making love
Talkin bout the good part baby
Cause you know when the push comes to shove
We can melt it right before it starts and get on with the good part
I got you thinkin and I know you well enough
To know that you know where I’m comin from
Trying not to smile girl you know I got riled up
So curled up into my arms
Don’t let go we’re almost there
Chorus
Sometimes you just feel like you wanna run away from everything and just get a break. Just pack up and go. You might want to listen to this tune on your way outta town. We wanted to write a real uplifting, feel-good summer song, a tune you could see people driving around with the windows down and the volume knob cranked. Go ahead crank it up - much better enjoyed up loud.
We’ve been surviving nine to fiving
Lately I’ve been thinking what’s it matter climbing that ladder
All it gets ya is gold watch and a pension
A few more wrinkles and a whole lot of grey
Chorus
Pack up your stuff throw it in the truck
Call your mama up and tell her were leaving
As were screaming pass that city limit sign
Foot out the door pedel to the floor
Girl there’s more to this world then were seeing
And I believe it’s just be on that county line
Lets put that two tons of freedom in drive
Come on come on come on we gotta live our lives
A little adventure is gonna make us richer
It’s what we’ve been missing in this slow me down sleepy little town
Lets be daring baby lets stop preparing
Just sit back an let the good times roll
Chorus
Have you ever been in relationship in where you loved someone so much you felt like you couldn’t live without them? At the same time, just couldn’t find any common ground? Yeah - it’s at that moment that you realize that no matter what you do, there’s just nothing you can do to turn things around, and the realization sets in that it’s just not going to work out.
Sitting here with you tonight
looking through these crying eyes
you and I both realize it’s over
There’s nothing left fighting for
We can’t do this anymore
The bags are packed there by the door it’s over
Chorus
Cause I’ve given everything I had to give to you
We’d find ways to put it off another day
Too afraid to face the bitter truth
But tomorrow’s now become today
And all that’s left to do is walk away
Well the love we had left ago
Cause my heart says I told you so
So how are we the last to know it’s over
Has it all been a waste of time
I don’t know but I know I’m
Willing to admit it’s finally over
Chrous
I don’t know who I am without you
Where do I go what do I do
When it only takes that one look from that someone to know and feel what they’re thinking, you know you’ve made the right choice. Love is a powerful emotion, in my opinion, the most powerful one. When you feel it, you know it, and most times words just can’t describe it.
By Joel Feeney/Jason Greeley/Kevin Savigar
A beautiful silence falling all around
You got that pretty little smile and my favorite t-shirt on
How can this life get any sweeter slow dancing by the fire
Hey baby that’s our song
Hold me close and close your eyes
Chorus
What I want to hear you don’t need to say
What you mean to me is all that matters anyway
What’s in your heart I’ve already heard
Cause Your Love is louder than words
I remember a time not that long ago
I was waiting on love I was sleeping all alone
Now I’m wide awake your lying next to me
Yeah there’s nothing between us it feels like home
Hold me close and drift away
Trying to break into the music scene is never an easy road. 99% of the time, it takes years of dedication and hard work. A lot of luck is involved as well, being in the right place at the right time. Someone once told me that there’s no such thing as luck. It’s a combination where preparation meets opportunity. Looking back, I very much agree with that at this point in my life and career. This is from the perspective of the singer songwriter’s journey in his own head.
Waking up in a hurricane
I see my life in a different way
And realize I’m running outta time
Look out my window down the same old street
Monday morning starring back at me
This town’s gonna bury me alive
Chorus
I gotta break these four walls down
Honey I’m falling out of line
You gotta take, take it all in stride
Honey I’m falling out of line
Heavy load it’s a heavy weight
Should I stay or leave this place
There’s a storm churning in my mind
Rolling over lately I can’t sleep
Chasing after something I can’t see
I gotta a fire burning deep inside
Chorus
I’m gonna fall outta line
Nothing left but the shoes on my feet
And I’m gonna wear them out
Chorus
This is something my dad said to me the day he got diagnosed with cancer. We found out about a month before I was supposed to move out west to work on this project. Obviously a recording deal was the last thing on my mind at that point and I was gonna stay home to be with my family. Dad sat me down and said “Jason, you have to do what you have to do now. You have a great opportunity to make a career for yourself and I won’t let you pass it up.” So reluctantly, I listened to him and here we are. I love ya Buddy!!! You’ll always be the beat in my heart and the rhythm in my soul.
He gets up at the break of dawn
Wipes his eyes put the coffee on
It’s time to hit the road
He was proud and he was strong
Never complained just moving on
He would turn to me and say
Chorus
Son you gotta do what you gotta do
Make the best of every chance you get
Even if you lose
You gotta stand for what you believe in
Gotta show’m what your made of
And faith will get you through
What you gotta do
The day I moved away from home
My dreams were big my spirit strong
But it killed me to say goodbye
As time marched on years flew by
It took some time but I realized
Man he had it right, and he’d say
Chrous
Well I knew his days were numbered and time wasn’t on our side
But I could see a tear was building as I looked into his eyes
Then the angels came and carried him away
Now I’m looking into the mirror and I say
Chorus
You gotta do what you gotta do
Make the best of every chance you get
Even if you lose
O I’m gonna stand for what I believe in
Gotta show’m what I’m made of
And faith will get me through
What I’ve gotta do
